 “A mixed bag for a sub $200 lens” 2010-03-10
By Book Fan (Virginia)
I purchased this lens without doing a lot of research since Nikon typically puts out good lens & primes are typically worry-free when it comes to barrel distortion and similar concerns due to their ‘fixed’ nature. I also have the 50mm f1.8 which performs marvelously, so I assumed the 35mm would as well. This is where I was wrong. The 35mm f1.8’s lens barrel distortion is one of the worst [...]. The other metrics did not make for a great lens as well. If you don’t read Ken Rockwell, start. He lists the pros and cons for this sub $200 lens at [...]. Therefore, be sure to do your research and understand where this lens exceeds and fails. Yes, Capture NX2 can automatically correct the distortion…however, the excessive degree of distortion was disappointing so I will try to find a Sigma/Tamron 35mm prime for my D90.

“Must have lens the for Nikon DX format cameras” 2010-03-07
By John Ingraham
This lens is a great normal lens for DX format cameras.

Given that is almost 4 stops better than the 18-55mm kit lens, there is really no need for VR.

Plus the Bokeh (background blur) is excellent for portrait work.

The ability to manually focus the lens even in AF mode is also an attractive feature.

The Autofocus is super quiet and very responsive

Highly recommended!

 “Amazing buy…warranty exists!!” 2010-03-05
By Deepanshu Shukla (Singapore, Singapore, SG)
This is an amazing product. Almost a must have. Took this lens with me when i visited my parents and it was the only lens i ever used throughout the holiday. Even night shots are very good. Although as with any prime, you have to walk around for the composition u want.

This product came with 5years US warranty and 1 year international warranty valid at any nikon service center. This important details is missing in the product detail.

Overall very happy with amazon shipping, delivered nicely packed and on time.

 “Well constructed prime lens” 2010-03-03
By Nils Lorvick (Farmington, MN USA)
I was going back and forth with the Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens. I ended up with this one, mainly because I have a D5000 that doesn’t have the autofocus motor. I was not disappointed with my choice. Since I’ve gotten the lens, I’ve rarely taken it off of the camera. There have been some times where the 50mm wouldn’t have worked for the shot I was composing.

The image quality is surprising for a lens this inexpensive. The autofocus motor is nice and quiet, and fast.

Anyone looking for a good, inexpensive prime lens for their D40/60/3000/5000, this is for sure the way to go.

 “Great overall lens” 2010-03-02
By Jon Delano (Boston, MA)
For the price of this lens you can’t go wrong. I bought this for shooting portraits and I’ll have to say that I’m pretty impressed. Good overall quality and the focus isn’t bad at all! Great for low light shooting.
