 "Great sound!" 2010-02-03
By Alfred Valera (Los Angeles, CA)
This is a great home theater setup. Easy to use, and the included microphone makes calibration a breeze. The wireless rear speakers are truly a delight. It is not a true wireless solution in that the speakers are still connected to a wireless receiver that provides power, but it beats running speaker wires across the rooms. I’d rate it higher if it had more inputs but alas you’re limited to one optical and one coax. Would’ve been better also if it handled pandora and other streaming radio services. But overall it matches nicely with my Sony Bravia tv.

"Sound is Great… Takes Time to Set up But Worth it!" 2010-01-31
By Robert Pogue
It all comes packed really well and ultimately the sound is tremendous. The down side is how long it takes to set up. For a big screen set inside a wall unit, where little room is available to run wires, this can be quite time consuming. I’m no electronic genius, but I have installed a lot of sound systems, tvs, etc. and this, because there is so much interface and wiring needed does take a lot of time. For me, about 3 hours.

Also, although the proper cables are somewhat expensive (most not included), spend the money and do it right.

A particular annoying problem, is that the remote does not have an eject button on it for your Blu-ray or DVD, so plan on hauling yourself up to do this. A pain to find the eject button in a low light room.

Ultimately, the surround sound is fabulous and worth the time and money. I looked at a lot of units before deciding on the Sony model. I really wanted to have wireless back speakers and this unit has the ability to rewire the standing floor speakers and use them for behind the sofa instead of the smaller speakers that really need to be hung on a wall. I used the smaller speakers for the front by the TV set inside my wall unit. Floor speakers behind you is a great feature that kind of wraps the full force of the sound around you!

I would say go for it, you will not be disappointed!

 "EXCELLENT SYSTEM" 2010-01-16
By Cliff (Virginia Beach)
It was easy to set-up, just took my time and followed the directions. The bass doesn’t shake the walls, although I guess if it was turned up loud enough it would. I thought my Samsung TV had great sound, but after installing this I learned what a great sound is. I’m glad I got this 500 watt system, the newer 100 watt system would have been to much for me.
Blu-ray DVDs look exceptional. The DVD player also upgrades regular DVDs to near HD. They look good also. Depending on the DVD they look as good as the Blu-ray.
I particularly liked the wireless rear speakers. Although there is a rear amp with two sets of speaker wires, it sure beats having to run wires fron the front system to the rear. I have the rear amp/receiver setting behind a chair and the signal is still strong. No problems with over the air reception.
I highly recommend this system.

"Great sound. Definitely not worth more than a half grand." 2010-01-13
By Tony R. Matthews (Richmond, VA)
This is a great sound system. I got it free with the purchase of my bravia. The wireless back speakers are amazing. The speaker setup was not easy. I watched dark knight immediately after the using the easy equalizer. The sound overwhelmed the dialogue and it ruined the first half of the movie until i manually changed it. So i would not recommend doing auto setup. I have used several systems before..pioneer, bose, and samsung.. and this stands out because it plays blu-ray and plays an ipod. A lot of people complain about how you have to manually control the ipod. Playing with the ipod rather than scrolling slowly on a tv is simpler as everyone knows how to use an ipod. Sound quality is astounding. It’s just frustrating that sony uses 6ohms for their base instead of standard 8ohms (so adding klipsch or other speakers is out of the question) but i guess thats how proprietary systems work. The system has BD-LIVE so it has been updating itself here and there. Blu-rays take on average 30-45 seconds to load, which is around standard timing for this new technology. Player has bravia sync which is easy and completely reliable. Controlling your tv and sound with one remote is now possible without the use of a logitech harmony remote. Overall, I’m glad i got it for free. I definitely wouldn’t pay the retail 700 dollars for it, but I believe the 500 is a good deal. IF you have any questions…feel free to ask away.
